It’s crazy that it’s in the 40’s in September in Southern Wisconsin, but that’s how we operate in the Cheese/Beer State! 🍻
It does make you think of winter arriving and sometimes it happens much sooner than you think! For instance: last year Halloween was ruined for thousands of kids and adults thanks to a yucky snowstorm. So I’ve started the research process on how to get my plants to survive this winter. It’s a rather intimidating adventure!
This is what I’ve learned so far, and it’s not much:
1) Prune the flowers in the first year to promote the overall plant growth (oopsie poopsie – didn’t do that! 😳).
2) The plants need to be covered during the winter to prevent ice and freezing. I’m debating getting little arches to keep the snow off the plants? That seems pricey and possibly unnecessary.
3) Prune after the second leaf growth from the woody stem in the spring before any flowers would grow and if a plant looks like it died, prune it to the top off the root growth and wait until late June for a comeback 🙏🏼🤞

I still have so many questions and lots of reading to do. I guess that’s what the winter months are for! However, working a retail job in 4th quarter adds the challenge of “less free time”.
Love this website. Can’t wait to see more!
