My Story

Hi! I’m Staci, thanks for visiting my blog about trying to grow lavender.

I’ve been going to “The Farm” for as long as I can remember. It’s part of who I am and what defines me. How many girls get to grow up playing in the wilderness, living in a camper on the weekends, cleaning up in a pond, fishing, frogging, playing in the caves on top of the ridges, hunting for mushrooms, or planting trees? No matter where I’ve gone to live, or what career I’ve chosen – I always have “The Farm” in my heart.

As a little girl, I loved the farm – that’s all I knew. As I grew older into a punk teenage girl, I grew to resent going to the farm because I couldn’t be with my friends. Then I went to college in Oshkosh and never visited the farm. It became a fuzzy memory as I tried to figure out who I was and what I wanted to do with my life.

I moved to Milwaukee after college and tried working in the Telelvision industry and got paid pennies and worked many jobs to make ends meet. One was a part-time job at Target. I eventually chose to change careers and went full-time at Target. I didn’t have a degree in Business Administration! But I learned and eventually left Target and took a chance going to an up-and-coming business named Kohl’s who only had about 200 stores at the time. I’ve been with them for over 20+ years.

I eventually started spending more time at “The Farm”. I learned to hunt Turkeys (spring only), learned to cut down trees to help my dad with the Black Walnut Trees and the Managed Forest Contract with the DNR. I transferred to Madison to be closer to family and to the farm and I’ve increasingly spent more time there. My husband isn’t as big a fan of “The Farm”. It hasn’t been kind to him! He learned about ticks, deer/horse flies, all kinds of other unpleasant things. But he goes for me! The only good thing coming out of this COVID-19 pandemic is that we’ve been going to the farm quite often and we’ve found a new hobby trying to grow an agricultural product called….lavender.

This is where it all begins!

Oh yeah…have I mentioned the love I have for my dogs?
